Summer preparation for skin and overall wellbeing
Summer is right around the corner, the official first day being June 20th, and that means the prep begins now. At the Beach House we recommend getting waxed consistently, usually every 4-6 weeks, in order to remove hair and dead skin cells from the surface of the skin exposing your smoothest, softest, skin. We also recommend being religious with your spf and re-applying it accordingly throughout the day. Our spf is such a wonderful product that applies onto the skin so effortlessly and comes tinted in a light, medium, or dark shade. Another great addition to your summer prep would be to begin getting facials regularly, a lot of our clients get one monthly. We have an incredible membership that you can sign up for where you would receive a facial monthly as well as a discount on our skincare and a special feature item (for example clients received a chocolate truffle in February).
Some of the things that I’m personally doing is dry brushing before every shower. You can find them anywhere online, I really love the one by Yerba Prima on Amazon because the bristles are tough and exfoliating. Dry brushing removes dead skin cells, boosts proper blood circulation, helps fade stretch marks and cellulite, etc. The texture of my skin is forever changed from dry brushing religiously every day for the past six years and I truly feel more confident in a swimsuit because of it. I also love using a homemade body scrub in the shower made from sugar and an odorless oil like jojoba, almond, avocado, etc and if I’m feeling fancy I’ll add cinnamon and vanilla extract which makes it smell like a cookie. I’ll massage that into my skin while in the shower and it leaves my skin so smooth, smelling yummy, and summer ready. After all that exfoliating, it’s time to deeply moisturize the skin. I personally love making my own homemade body butters and slathering them all over my body head to toe, but buying a creamy, deeply hydrating lotion or body butter from the store works just as great. And no one likes seeing rough, dry, cracked heels so make sure you don’t forget your feet in all of this! And then at this point, after applying some spf of course, you’re ready to slip into your favorite swimsuit or sun dress and head out.
Now let’s quickly discuss what to consume to internally prep your body for the summer. Making sure you drink lots of water, they say to take your body weight, divide it by two, and that’s how many ounces you should be drinking daily. Water alone is fine to drink but it’s equally as important to get your electrolytes in because that is what deeply hydrates your body at a cellular level. The options for electrolytes are to sprinkle a little high quality salt into your water like pink himalayan or celtic sea salt. Or to mix an electrolyte powder into your water. Or lastly drink coconut water which has naturally occurring electrolytes. Staying properly hydrated will not only give your skin a glow but more importantly will prevent you from getting dehydrated. And speaking of staying hydrated, loading up on lots of different fruits and vegetables will make you feel and look amazing from all of the vitamins and nutrients they provide. Eating lots of lean proteins like chicken, fish, turkey, eggs, etc is extremely important as protein gives you energy and helps with cell turnover and giving you beautiful glowy skin.
