Dermaplaning vs. Shaving
If you’ve ever wondered whether dermaplaning is basically the same thing as shaving your face, you’re not alone. While both use a blade to remove facial hair, they are not exactly the same.
Shaving is mainly about removing hair
When you shave, the goal is to remove the hair at the skin’s surface. You’re simply cutting the hair so it is no longer visible or noticeable.
Dermaplaning does more
Dermaplaning is a professional skin treatment that removes fine vellus hair, also known as peach fuzz, along with the buildup of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin.
That means dermaplaning isn't just about removing unwanted facial hair. It also helps exfoliate the skin, leaving it feeling smoother and looking fresh.
So while both treatments can remove facial hair, the main difference is what is being removed.
Shaving = hair removal.
Dermaplaning = exfoliation + fine facial hair removal.
If you're considering dermaplaning for the first time, your esthetician can help you understand what the treatment involves and whether it is a good fit for your skin.
